Representation of Gender- Primeval

The representation of Gender in Primeval starts of the shot where the male which is an over the shoulder shot/point of view where he is chasing a lady and then dialogue starts as the camera zoomed to the couples face then they started talking. The scene quickly and smoothly changed to the the truck as the camera zoomed to set the scene of the location where it was located, the location of the set was in a muddy/ adventure park. As the scene changed to we saw the lady who was in the truck she was a short haired blond lady who was wearing a leather jacket this was very clear to the audience because the camera zoomed to the character in this scene it seemed like the roles reverse the lady driving and controlling the truck whereas the man should  be controlling the heaving vehicle this was defiantly a representation of gender because we also see the male who was in tracks suit very comfortable clothing telling the lady what to do as she steered the vehicle.

There was a numerous amounts of whip pans during the scene where the tiger comes in aggressively attacking the truck she also saved the man where the tiger was running towards the male this was an extreme close up on the tiger as he ran toward the male character this denotes the power and the extreme force of the animal at this point the male character was in the hole where the lady was digging before the tiger came to this particular scene we see it was an high angle shot of character denoting the strength power of the male character. we also see the fear of the male character as he spots the animal running toward him. The lady then saves him by distracting the animal the camera then starts moving very fast as the anticipation and anxiety grows within the audience. as the scenes move continually and quickly to make the audience have fear with in them.

As the scene quickly, continually change without realisation to the audience there is an extreme high angle shot of the ladder where the male is chased to by the animal this was done because they wanted us to sympathise with the character. Throughout Primeval we are introduced to the Non- diegetic sounds this gets louder as the anticipation grows this also gets faster/louder every time something happens there was also different sounds such as the diegetic sounds trucks/tiger and the male character.

In this scene as the non diegetic slows down and becomes calmer we see as lady who comes to a barn and its farmer and she starts interrogating him about the tiger and starts accusing him about him breeding dogs to fight and be aggressive. Here we see the slim/ pretty lady a stereotypical women who only cares about her attire she begins to interrogate and we see an over the shoulder/ point of view shot of the farmer and his expression we also see his face start to become drained and very red as if to say he is tired of being interrogated and always accused by other people, we can already see by the farmers accent as not being very uneducated and his attire: he was wearing a very dirty/scruffy jumper denoting his social class and his gender that men are always dirty and the stereotypes which are always directed towards men. As he gets frustrated the camera zooms to the farmer we see her pushed to ground and a rifle pointed to her by the other character (farmer) and the camera instantly goes to an high angle as the farmer pushes the posh lady on to the ground here we see the camera in the farmers point of view and his superiority over her.  We hear her dialogue and she calls him Mr west and here she was on a low angle as she looks up at him.

Representation of Ethnicity - Hotel Babylon

Camera Shot, Angle and Composition

At the beginning of the Five minute sequence of hotel Babylon the first shot was of the hotel manager who was faced by a white english policeman  who informed the white manager that the hotel would be surrounded by police officers and that nobody would be allowed to exit I cam to a conclusion that there were maybe criminals in the hotel building that they didn't want to miss out on this. The camera angle on this was a full body shot of the police men and their boss which indicated their superiority and power this angle was shot from the hotels receptionist point of view.

There was a slow but yet sharp shot of the Blond receptionist she was also a white lady which worked there her look indicated she was a intelligent, confident lady she was accompanied by the immigration service who were three men two large men and there boss they were all dressed in black suites and the boss had a suit they were very business like by the way they talked and walked they also seemed powerful and respectful.

Improved version - Evaluation - Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our media products genre is on social realism and the audience that we have chosen are 15+ mainly for teenagers the reason behind this choice was that having a firsthand experience as being teenagers ourselves gave us the idea that creating a media product which attracted the teenage audience would be a great idea and would be something that the younger audience would take heed of and like and therefore would watch something that happened from day to day life. Our type of audience would be interested in our movie because it would be a reflection of their lives and the audience would like to see different approaches to different situations that happen in real-life and this is what our genre does, it reaches out to the youth with the same difficulties as Ozzy and they would find there common grounds and would be able to enjoy it. The genre for our movie is social realism and this choice was mainly to attract our audience base which is youths and older generation to view this real life, everyday happening situations.
Our film would reach out to the 15+ because it is the reflection of some of the teenagers out there who struggle to find the means to cope with education, romance and living in general and finding the means to cope with financial problems and providing for the people who they care about by doing this film our audience would get the idea of our media product and would be able to relate with the character Ozzy.
The main audience for our media product would attract those who mainly watch Social Realism film such as Adulthood , Kiddulthood and many more film to do with real life situation. These were the main movies that had similar stories to ours and mainly had similar target audiences for. These movies also had meaning to them and tried to reach out to the youth out there and this is exactly what we have aspired to do in our media product.
The reason behind choosing 15+ is because there was also drug dealing involved and we didn't want small children to be involved in watching this happen as it could be influencing them to do so. We also think that this would be the perfect age to inform younger kids the wrong and the good which we have included such as education and drug dealings, Unfortunately we see Ozzy taking the harder lifestyle such as 'Drugs' but later on the in the movie we see him being challenged and all bad comes with consequences such as 'Prison' and we see him through the struggles in his life.
The research and the planning of our opening sequence was a big part in helping to come up with our audience so it would help our decision in choosing our target audience this was done by mainly asking people in interviews to what age the media product should be and what age the audience should be this really helped us in finalising our decision for who the audience should be and what would appeal to them and what they would enjoy watching as far as what would be the best age group for the opening sequence.

In Researchiung about the about the Reviews of A Serious Man i have found out it was extremely hard for them to figure the Target Audience who had this to say " which category does it fall into? Tough to say. This is, most certainly, not a film for everyone. It is thick and dense and personal, a painful look at a man having a crisis not just of faith but of life, a Jewish edition of the Book of Job, whose ending befuddles even the most pious devotee of the brothers brand of cinema. It's hard to imagine who the target audience is, exactly".

Planning on the evaluation

* We are going to do our evaluation all on the Wix.
*To make it more interesting we will have some parts of it written down and a lot of pictures to support our point. Also we might do a voice over to make it easier  and more interesting for the examiner/teacher to look at.
* We should do some parts of the evaluation individually, as it would let us save up some time. at the end we could all look at each others work and correct it together.

Tv drama - Cranford -Representation/Social Class

In Cranford i have realised that there were three characters of women who were working class and the beginning of the TV  drama we see there house which was a very small cottage which denotes their social class as a working class they were servants to a house which looked like a mansion as we do not see the owners of the house we assume that they are wealthy and come from an upper class.

The two ladies in the kitchen were admiring a lace they were very happy and excited by it which denoted their social class. From a long shot of the camera we saw another servant who was washing/hanging clothes up on the hangers. When the two working classes were talking the cat jumped up on the table and started drinking the butter milk which they had poured on to the lace to keep it white as possible.

When they had realised that the cat had drunk the milk and swallowed the lace they got very annoyed and started cursing here we see a representation of the working class as they would normally act. The two working class ladies were dressed in a a long/dirty dress which denotes their social class.

When they had run out of the house and chased the women inside the carriage we see the camera angles position from up to the lady and come back down to the two working classes as to say the lady in the carriage which was being carried by two men who were costumed very down the sound was very verbal because they were talking during this shot. Here we see a specific class because we see there is no means of transport such as Horse and Carriage like the upper class. This lighting was very dark, this suggested it was shot in the earlier years.

The dialogue of Cranford is quite articulate in a very knowelegable tone when the two men were in the shot after the two ladies were running, two men who were doctors , the sound was diegetic the shot was a very long shot to show us their social class and their costume was dressed very upper class and there tone of voice was very articulate and thought of. Their sense of costume was a long black Jacket with long top hats to suggest they were upper class and the camera angels were kept on their area the whole time to suggest they were the important characters of the shot.

TV Drama

The BOAT that ROCKED

Analysis

Stereotypes

Counterparts

Archeotypes

In analysing this script I have realised the narrating was very well sorted out and gives very detailed information about what the character is doing and where the characters are meant to be.

From reading this script I have found out that men were the dominant ones rather then women they were seen as the quiet and more submissive.

I have see Quentin as the dominating one in this script and he has the most lines in the script which shows he is the main character. Page 3 Quentin (Holds up a letter) he says ' Three weeks today, Gavin Kavanagh returns to rock on Radio Rock'. Here we see he's very informative and the head of the radio station and a lot of people look up to him which connotes  he's looked at upon and people respect him for the work he does around.

In this script there are not a lot of women representing anything there are more of men and this shows that women are not as superior to men and they are not as sociable and this is mainly a stereotype
